The Renewables Grid Initiative (RGI) and Members of the Offshore Coalition for Energy and Nature were present at WindEurope’s Annual Event in Bilbao, Spain from 20-22 March 2024 with a range of activities!
Workshop
During the conference, OCEaN, RGI and WIndEurope held a dedicated workshop to bring together the perspectives of wind developers, transmission system operators, and NGOs to discuss the complexities and key components of nature-friendly offshore wind and grid development. Achieving offshore wind and biodiversity targets: opportunities and lessons learned in Europe’s seas drew lessons learned from the North and Baltic Seas and addressed the challenges and opportunities for the Mediterranean Sea basin.
OCEaN Exhibition Stand
The Offshore Coalition for Energy and Nature had a stand in the exhibition hall for all three days of WindEurope’s Annual Event (20-22 March 2024). We invited participants to stop by our stand (1-A130) to chat with OCEaN Members and the RGI Offshore team, explore our ‘Learning Corner’, and pick up some surprise giveaways.
Presentations at Members’ Stands
To highlight the collaborations and projects of OCEaN Members working to reconcile offshore energy and nature in European seas, OCEaN once again organised short presentations throughout the Annual Event at the stands of our Members.
March 20 (11:00-11:45): SSE Renewables held the presentation ‘Quantification of Biodiversity Gain’, followed by a input from RGI on the related work of GINGR (Location: Stand 3-E60).
March 20 (15:30-16:15): Ørsted discussed their collaborations with The Rich North Sea and Van Oord in the presentation ‘Biodiversity action in Borssele Offshore Wind Farm’ (Location: Stand 3-B70).
March 21 (9:30-10:15): BlueFloat Energy and Ocean Ecostructures held the presentation ‘Early social and environmental integration of offshore wind in the Mediterranean Sea’ (Location: Stand 3-D80).
Additional Activities
22 March (10:30-11:00): The North Sea Foundation was at the OCEaN stand to discuss our joint poster on mitigation measures and answer questions (Location: Stand 1-A130).
